This video advises on how to protect yourself and your family from home fires and links to resources that can assist you with preparing a home Escape Plan.

Transcript

Being prepared to safely escape from a fire in your home is one of the most important plans you can ever make for your family.

But before you develop an escape plan, you need to identify household fire hazards, such as faulty stoves, heaters, and electrical equipment and eliminate them; then you can develop your personal escape plan.

In order for everyone in the household to use it effectively, consider the home users and their abilities, the time required for escaping, and the alerts and the routes that are available.

After making your escape plan, you will need to practice it with all members of your household and record the time it took to evacuate your home.

Fire and Rescue agencies in all Australian states can perform safety visits, and advise you further on how to keep you home safe.
