Abstract:

This book describes the pressures of new regulations, severe financial constraints and the fact that people are living longer has given rise to a radical change to the provision of good housing for older people. Upgrading buildings for older people has been specifically written to look at the ongoing process of maintaining and developing buildings in a way that responds to these demands. It is primarily addressed at the providers and designers of care and housing for old people, and highlights the opportunities as well as the challenges of appraising the residential properties provided and managed by both large and small organisations. This book is a timely and realistic exploration of the opportunities available to make residential settings fit for a more demanding, discriminating and growing section of the population.
