In occupational therapy, technical aids are prescribed and used as a means of providing elderly persons with a greater degree of self-autonomy and an improved quality of life. Until recently, very little has focused on the elderly's use of technical aids in the home setting. In this context, a pilot study was conducted to evaluate the use of technical aids among 20 disabled elderly persons living at home. Following discharge from the rehabilitation setting, the subjects were interviewed twice in their home, with a three month interval between interviews. The results showed that a large number of technical aids were used for transfers and that few subjects used the feeding and grooming aids. The findings are discussed from the elderly person's perspective and the importance of developing a measure of user satisfaction is emphasised. Text in French
