Abstract:

The health of subpopulations is discussed under the following subheadings (and sub-subheadings): Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (life expectancy, mortality, hospitalisation, birth outcomes for Indigenous mothers, risk factors, self-assessed health status, health services expenditure); rural and remote populations (mortality, hospital separations, general practice consultations, distribution of medical practitioners); overseas-born persons (mortality, hospitalisation, health determinants and risk factors); mothers and infants (live births and birth rates, multiple births, termination of pregnancy, perinatal mortality, birth weight, type of delivery, congenital malformations); children and young adults (child health, health of young adults); older people (increasing life expectancy, causes of death, the most common health problems, perceived health, dementia, disability handicap and dependency, health expenditure, hospital use, changing patterns of care)
