The Economic Value of Informal Care

Author: Access Economics,
Year: 2005
Type: Report

Abstract:

Carers provide informal care to people who need assistance due to disability, chronic illness or old age. In this report, Access Economics uses recently released data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics to examine the amount of informal care being provided in Australia today. Placing a dollar value on the work of informal carers is the first step in evaluating whether the current usage of informal and formal care models is socially optimal, in terms of both efficiency and equity.
