It is a common practice for community organisations to provide both accommodation and support services to people who need somewhere to live and support to live there. Accommodation and support services are provided for people with a disability, young people, or women escaping domestic violence. In these organisations, the organisation and its staff are required to undertake two quite different roles. The first is that of housing management. The second is that of support to the tenant. The author discusses the pros and cons of separating housing management and support in order to better serve the interests of clients and service providers.
