Abstract:

A satellite teleconference on health care reform for the elderly is reported. Topics addressed include: the aging of the population & its implications for proposals for health care reform; market-based plans, tax credit plans, play or pay, organized delivery systems, outcome & cost plans, & the politics of health care; criteria for acceptable health care plans for the elderly & the role of information in health care; the single-payer plan & the role of economics in health care; the concept of cultural acceptability & the need for consideration of the health care of nonurban populations; dental services & training of dental students; the adequacy of health care for the elderly in the U.S.; the Canadian model of health care; Latino health care; nontraditional health care; & tailoring of health care to the elderly's perceptions of health, illness, & aging.
