Guidelines for assessing use of position change alarms.

Nursing Homes.

Author: Rader, J.
Year: 1993
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Position or pressure change alarms have been found to be particularly useful for nursing home residents with combinations of problems such as impaired mobility, judgment, and balance following a stroke. Before initiating use of this type of alarm, a number of steps should be taken. First, a mobility assessment should be conducted. If mobility problems are found, a more detailed gait evaluation should be administered. Finally, the use of the device should be discussed with the resident and family. Use of the device should be continually re-evaluated.
