Year: 1991
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

A discussion of the current housing context facing the U.S. elderly in terms of the increasing pressures on economically vulnerable elders-the very poor & very old who live alone in large urban environments. Key trends of growing significance during the 1980s are reviewed, with focus on the erosion of federally subsidized housing programs for the aging. Forces affecting the availability of affordable housing are discussed, outlining the precipitants of homelessness among elders in Chicago.
