This overview of the 1995 White House Conference on Aging (Washington, DC) includes the social work response & offers an action plan for implementation. The conference theme, "Generations Aging Together," emphasized the intergenerational focus of the meetings & resolutions were developed in four global areas: (1) assuring comprehensive health care that includes long-term care; (2) promoting economic security; (3) maximizing housing & support service options; & (4) maximizing options for a quality life. A social work action plan identifies social/cultural, organizational, familial, & individual target issues, & outlines suggested priority actions relating to each issue. The social work profession is challenged to respond to the call to action issued at the conference.
