Examines the experience of the aged in India & its implications for the design & delivery of culturally sensitive social services to aging Indian immigrants in North America. Survey of 23 primary caregivers & 23 elderly in Karnataka, India, 1988/89 reveals that a primary caregiver's attitude has a positive influence on the elderly's level of satisfaction with the care received. With similar cultural expectations of family caregiving, first-generation Americans of Asian-Indian origin are likely to be very apprehensive about accessing social services. Practice implications of working with the aged both in India & the U.S. are discussed.
