Ease of Access Rating Guide

Abstract:

Few houses and apartments in Queensland have been built with the needs of people with a mobility impairment or older people in mind. Housing choices for these people are limited with many finding that houses with a number of steps, narrow passageways, internal stairwells or small bathrooms provide barriers that prevent them from living safely and independently. Property inspections are time consuming and frustrating for both people seeking appropriate housing and housing providers. Improving access for Queenslanders to safe, secure, appropriate and affordable housing is a key priority for the Queensland Government. This goal is reflected in the Departmentメs Home Access program which aims to address the need for accessible housing in the private housing system (private rental and owner occupied) and to enhance housing options for people with a disability.
