Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy

Author: Vertesi, A., Darzins, P., Lowe, S., McEvoy, E., Edwards, M.
Year: 2000
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

This article presents the findings of a pilot study of a Handicap Assessment and Resource Tool ( HART). HART is a client-centred tool that addresses key occupational performance components of personal care. It was designed to provide information about personal issues like clothing, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, safety, residence and supports, relevant to choice of residence. Pilot testing in hospital and community settings shows that HART is a comprehensive and practical tool that is acceptable to users and clients. The authors have also presented a review of functional tools that are commonly used by occupational therapists. This paper provides a detailed description of HART, including the functional areas addresses and the layout of the tool.
