Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to discover factors related to elderly persons perceived difficulty of remaining in their own homes as they grow older. Data for this study was collected through personal interviews with 192 older residents. The study looked at the personal characteristics, housing and location characteristics and support-related characteristics. The findings suggest that older individuals are not likely to perceive any difficulty to remain in their own homes as they advance in age, unless they experience health and mobility problems, and are having difficulty doing routine tasks and are living further from services.
