Status Report - The Quarterly Newsletter on Disability Issues in Alberta

Author: Wickman, R.
Year: 2000
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

This is part two of a four part series on incorporating accessibility during construction and renovation of publicly-used buildings. A good designer makes barrier-free design a primary focus in any new building design or building renovation, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities. The Alberta Building Code says this is mandatory during new constructions or renovations. The author provides An Accessible Public Entrances Checklist to help design new buildings or analyse existing buildings in order to make recommendations towards renovations.
