Accessibility: seeing the big picture

Status Report - The Quarterly Newsletter on Disability Issues in Alberta

Author: Wickman, R.
Year: 2000
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

This is the final installment of a four part series on accessibility and barrier free design in which the author examines the concept of accessible communities. An accessible community should afford the residents to manipulate, change, add on to, subdivide and personalise. The author has included a seven part questionnaire in this article to identify people's preferences as to where and how they would like to live in a city. Positive urban planning is the key to creating a more accessible built environment.
