Home Modification Service Providers should be alerted to the new Electrical safety report by Workcover

Published

WorkCover have released a useful factsheet on Electrical Safety in the Workplace. It includes common risk controls, procedures to prevent unsafe equipment being used, using equipment in another person's building, inspection tesing and monitoring and Residual Current Device (RCD) requirements.

Refer to the new edition of the Australian/New Zealand Standard for Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000:2007) which was released in November 2007 and revised by Amendment 1 in July 2009 and Amendment 2 in 2012. For more information see AS/NZS 3000:2007 at SAI Global.

Also good to note that in wet areas all equipment must be assessed for the appropriate ingress protection (IP) rating to be applied: Ingress Protection (IP) Ratings

- Note that the USA uses a different rating system, National Electric Manufacturers Association (NEMA) ratings are not accepted under Australian standards.
