An accessible home opens the door to health, happiness and work

“When you are ready to leave hospital hopefully your parents’ house will have been modified so you can live at home.“

These were the words I repeatedly heard as a 16-year-old who spent six months in an archaic hospital with a spinal cord injury. I had never thought much about disability or housing design and, in any event, I felt I would only need to think about it when I became “old”.

I was wrong. Accidents or illness can affect anyone at any time.
