Down Syndrome International is delighted to announce that a resolution to designate 21 March as “World Down Syndrome Day” was adopted by the United Nations on Thursday 10 November 2011.
Down Syndrome International (DSi) is a UK based international charity, comprising a membership of individuals and organisations from all over the World, committed to ensuring quality of life and human rights for all people with Down syndrome.
Our members include people with Down syndrome, parents, family members and friends, carers, professionals, practitioners, researchers, organisations and people who are just interested in Down syndrome.
DSi was founded in 1993 as a result of a meeting between Jo Mills (Canada), Penny Robertson (Australia) and Sylvia Escamilla (Mexico) who formalised the mission and structure of the organisation. In May 2002, Down Syndrome International registered as a UK charity with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, and in 2009 DSi moved to offices in Teddington, England at the former home of pioneering Victorian Physician Dr John Langdon Down, after whom Down syndrome is named.
A dedicated Board of Trustess and Advisors representing many different countries has the mandate to provide a platform for people with Down syndrome to live full and rewarding lives.
