Third International Conference on Aging and Society

The International Advisory Board of the Aging and Society Knowledge Community is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the Third Annual Aging and Society: An Interdisciplinary Conference to be held 8-9 November 2013 at The University Center, Chicago, USA. The Call for Submissions to The International Journal of Aging and Society is also open at this time.

The current deadline to submit a proposal (a title and short abstract) is 10 September 2013. Proposals are still being accepted for in-person or virtual presentations. In-Person presentations will be accommodated in available sessions and will appear in the final digital program.

If you are unable to attend the conference, you may still join the community and submit your article for peer review and possible publication, upload an online presentation, and enjoy subscriber access to the journal.

Community Themes
We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives to contribute to the conference discourse. We also encourage faculty and students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations, colloquia, or panel discussions. Proposals may address aging and society through any of the following thematic areas:

- Economic and Demographic Perspectives on Aging
- Public Policy and Public Perspectives on Aging
- Medical Perspectives on Aging, Health, Wellness
- Social and Cultural Perspectives on Aging

2013 Theme: Healthy Aging: Educating through Media
This year's conference features the special theme, Healthy Aging: Educating through Media. To explore and discuss this theme, the conference has partnered with Working Films to look at how different forms of media can be used to educate and talk about aging in society. As part of this discussion, excerpts from two films from Working Films's Series: Reel Aging will be shown. These films are Prison Terminal directed by Edgar Barens and The Graying of Aids directed by Katja Heinemann and Naomi Schegloff. Additionally, a panel discussion on the morning of the second day of the conference will serve as a forum to examine how media is and can be used to educate about aging and health. Presentations are also invited that address the conference theme.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and meeting you in Chicago, USA for this exciting, interdisciplinary event.
