Understanding accreditation: A practical toolkit for homes course

Course aim - key participant skills takeaway

This two day industry focused course aims to provide participants from residential aged care homes with an introduction to the aged care regulatory framework, accreditation standards, audit process principles and methodology. Participants will develop skills to critically review and contribute to the continuous improvement of their organisation’s provision of care and services and to demonstrate performance against the current Accreditation Standards.

This course includes a pre-course learning module to complete prior to attending. 

Learning outcomes

Through active participation in this course participants will be able to:

  • Outline the relevant aged care regulatory framework underpinning residential aged care accreditation.

  • Describe a quality focus in aged care and outcomes for consumers.

  • Outline the Accreditation Standards, expected outcomes and linkages.

  • Describe the Quality Agency’s audit principles and methodology.

  • Contribute effectively to an organisation’s quality management, continuous improvement and risk management systems.

  • Use the self-assessment process to gather and analyse information to evidence performance or identify opportunities for improvement.

Target audience

This course has been developed for those who want to gain a better understanding of accreditation, demonstrating performance against the current Accreditation Standards and improving the quality of care and service delivery within their homes.

It is targeted at senior leaders, managers and decision makers in residential aged care homes / organisations including
