WORKSHOP: Environmental Home Modifications - The Basics

Day 1 of 2

This is a two day workshop (Friday 7 and Saturday 8 August) for Occupational Therapists covering the knowledge and skills based required to prescribe environmental modifications in a residential setting. This workshop is targeted at Occupational Therapists who have minimal to medium experience in home modifications and is suitable for new graduates, for those returning to clinical work or changing area of practice, and for those who would like a refresher.

Using a combination of theory sessions and practical activities, it is expected that participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of the environment and its importance as a core concept of occupational therapy
  • Have an understanding of the theories and models influencing OT practice
  • Consider how the concept of the environment influences daily decisions in occupational therapy practice
  • Understand the relationship the Australian Standards have in relation to design
  • Understand the relationship that the Building Code of Australia has in relation to design
  • Articulate the principles of OT intervention in design

Prerequisites
This workshop is targeted at Occupational Therapists who have minimal to medium experience in home modification assessments.
