What causes slips, trips and fall injuries?

Last Updated

Any underdevelopment or diminishment of capacities impacts a persons ability to transport themselves independently and safely. Mobility requires a firm, stable and slip resistant surface in order to minimise the risk of falling. Slip resistance is the resistance that the floor surface offers the shoe, sole, foot or walking aid tip when it makes contact with the floor surface. People with mobility impairments find it difficult to negotiate surfaces that do not offer adequate levels of slip resistance, and falls are a common on such surfaces. A floor surface that provides adequate slip resistance will not allow the foot to slip and help prevent falls.
